Traffic Court Records in Newton County
Every traffic case in Newton County runs through one place. Local rule LR-56-15 puts traffic matters in Newton Superior Court, docket code 56D01. The towns of Brook, Goodland, Kentland, Morocco, and Mount Ayr have no traffic court of their own listed in the official directories. A town may set conduct rules in its own code. Even so, its traffic court records land in Superior Court. The unified Newton County Clerk holds them as well.
What ends up in the court docket? The ticket itself comes first. So do the police agency that wrote it, the offense, the case number, the plea, hearing settings, fees, deferral activity, orders, and the final disposition. Call Superior Court at 219-474-5569 with a question about a setting. For the case file, reach the Clerk at 219-474-6081. Both offices work out of the courthouse at 201 N. Third Street, Kentland. Mail your record request to the Clerk at PO Box 49, Kentland, IN 47951.
Newton County ePay Search Fields
Indiana ePay Public Access gives you three ways to pull up a court ticket. No login is needed. The ticket number works best. The lookup also accepts a driver's license number or a name paired with a date of birth. Whatever field you use, the search only finds the court case. It does not double as a state driving-record request.
| Search path | Required entry | Format or note |
|---|---|---|
| Ticket (UTT) number | Exact ticket number | Examples: J0000000 or 000012305489 |
| Driver's license number | License number | No public format rule was posted |
| Name and birth date | First, last, and DOB | Middle initial optional; DOB uses MM/DD/YYYY |
A result can list the ticket date, number, agency, court, case number, offenses, and what you owe. Buttons let you Refine Search, start a New Search, View details, Pay Online, Cancel, or Continue. One caution from the portal itself: not every ticket shows up, and not all qualify for online payment.
How to Look Up a Newton County Traffic Ticket
A fresh citation needs time to reach the court system. Newton County tells drivers to wait one week after issuance. The cause number is created during that wait. Then run the UTT number through ePay. If nothing comes back, try the other search fields, check MyCase, or call the court. Once the case appears, write down the ticket number, cause number, date, and current status.
- Identify the issuing agency and copy the UTT number exactly.
- After the local processing period, search Indiana ePay by UTT number.
- Try the license or name and birth-date route if the exact-number search fails.
- Check MyCase for a 56D01 case and its chronological case summary.
- Call Superior Court or the Clerk, or visit the clerk counter, when no result appears.
- For a missing document, make a specific phone, counter, mail, or written records request.
The county offers no town portal, drop box, general traffic email, or public terminal for this. So go straight to the source. Call the court or the clerk, and never assume a missing online result means the citation was cleared.
When Newton County Tickets Are Missing
A ticket can be missing from a portal for several reasons. It may still be processing. It may be blocked from online payment, filed under a different search key, or simply outside that feature's scope. Juvenile ticket copies may not be available for online purchase either. Check the ticket date, refine the search, and try MyCase. Still nothing? Call Newton Superior Court at 219-474-5569 or the Clerk at 219-474-6081.
Keep the cause number: Newton traffic cause numbers begin 56D01. Save that number with the citation number and court date because it is the strongest key for later docket and document requests.
For a mail request, give the Clerk the case or citation number, the exact item and date, the copy type, your return address, and a phone number. Keep sensitive traffic details out of email. The county's deferral instructions warn against that practice in plain terms.
Finding Your Newton County Traffic Court Date
The date that counts comes from the citation, a current court notice, the latest CCS entry, or the clerk. ePay posts no universal Newton contest deadline. Check MyCase first, then open the Indiana Court Calendar for the rolling public hearing window. Select Newton and Newton Superior Court, enter the date, and optionally search by case number or name.
| Citation number | The UTT identifier, such as J0000000. |
|---|---|
| Cause number | The court case identifier beginning 56D01. |
| Court | Newton Superior Court for all county traffic cases. |
| Date and time | The current appearance or hearing setting, checked against the latest entry. |
| Status | Pending, disposed, paid, deferred, or another case-specific state. |
That calendar reaches back only seven days and forward four weeks. A result may show the hearing type, time, location, judge, court phone, and a link to the case. Resets can happen after publication. So before you drive, verify an older notice against the newest court record.
Newton County's Infraction Deferral
The county's own Newton Infraction Deferral Program page lists a $192.50 total for the in-person route. You fill out the form at the Prosecutor's Office. You pay cash or money order at the Clerk. The electronic form with card payment totals $202.50, which includes a $10 processing fee. One warning from the county: do not pay the underlying ticket before you finish the deferral form and payment. The page spells out the program and both payment paths.

You cannot use the program with a CDL endorsement, if you used it in the prior 12 months, with two or more citations from one stop, or for listed serious offenses. That list is only partial. A participant serves six months with no new traffic citation, takes no class, and earns dismissal after probation. Break that term and the charge comes back. Program questions go to the Prosecutor at 219-474-5777.
Paying or Contesting a Newton County Ticket
Paying and contesting lead to different places. When a ticket shows up and is eligible, ePay can process the response. It shows transaction costs before you finish. If it is not eligible, Indiana sends payment through the court. That can be in person or by mail. To contest, follow the citation. Confirm the plea or hearing route with Superior Court or the Clerk. And never borrow a deadline from another county's rules.
| Paying | Contesting |
|---|---|
| Review the specific ticket, response, balance, and added transaction cost. | Use the citation instructions and ask the court how to enter the proper plea. |
| Use ePay only if the ticket appears and qualifies, or pay through the court. | Confirm the setting and later changes through the current CCS or court. |
| The portal may show Admit Plea or Nolo Contendere in its flow. | A universal local contest deadline was not published; the ticket or court notice controls. |
Missed payment or court date: Newton posts no local failure-to-appear fee or warrant schedule. Ask the court what the latest CCS entry says. A missing ePay result settles nothing.
Indiana's unpaid-ticket guidance is blunt. A Department of Revenue garnishment letter gives 30 days to pay. It also adds a 10 percent processing fee. The failure-to-pay suspension lasts until payment. After that, the court notifies the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Confirm the current effect against the notice and court record.
Newton County Unpaid Ticket Notices
Indiana's court guidance on traffic debt explains this tax-refund and garnishment route.

The notice period and added charge are collection tools only. They do not replace a court check for a plea, disposition, or failure-to-appear entry. Always compare a notice against the current Superior Court CCS.
Newton County Court Record vs Driver Record
Two offices keep two files. The Newton County Clerk holds the court case record behind the citation. The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles keeps the separate licensing record. So a court docket lookup is not a BMV request, and an empty portal result says nothing conclusive about the driving file.
| Court traffic record | Driver record | |
|---|---|---|
| Kept by | Newton County Clerk and Superior Court | Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles |
| Shows | Citation, plea, settings, deferral, disposition, fees, and orders | Reported convictions, points, and license status |
| Request route | ePay, MyCase, or Clerk copy request | BMV's official driving-record request channel |
Ask which file answers your real question. A certified ticket disposition comes from the clerk, while the BMV record comes from the licensing agency itself.
Newton County Traffic Fee Sources
Traffic costs shift with the offense and case status. For current court-cost schedules, the state's official source is the Indiana trial-fees manual.

ePay also shows ticket balances and transaction costs. Because the county posts no separate fine schedule, never treat the deferral fee as the fine on an ordinary citation.
Newton County Traffic Fees and Copies
Copy fees follow the Clerk's record fee rules. The state's official clerk resource lists $1 per legal or letter-size page under IC 33-37-5-1. A certificate under seal adds $1 under IC 33-37-5-3. Ask how many pages the ticket record holds. Ask too whether a certificate is needed.
| Item | Fee | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Plain record copy | $1.00 per page | Legal or letter-size statutory line |
| Certificate under seal | $1.00 | Added where certification is requested |
| Deferral in person | $192.50 | County program, not an ordinary copy fee |
| Deferral online | $202.50 | Includes the stated $10 card processing fee |
Call 219-474-6081 before mailing any copy payment. Have the cause number, ticket number, document name, and copy type ready, and the clerk will confirm the exact total and accepted payment method.
Newton County ePay Plea Labels
The ePay response flow may display “Admit Plea” and “Nolo Contendere (No Contest).” An agreement checkbox sits alongside them. Those labels are not just payment buttons. They fix the response recorded for the ticket. So read the full portal text and your citation first. A portal screen sets no universal Newton County response deadline. It also does not decide whether deferral is available.
Admit Plea: The portal label for admitting the cited violation in the available payment flow.
Nolo Contendere: A no-contest plea label shown by ePay; the case record reflects the court's resulting action.
Transaction cost: An added amount disclosed before online completion, separate from the underlying ticket balance.
Stop if the response you want is not offered. Contact Newton Superior Court instead. Do the same whenever a notice conflicts with the amount, the deadline, or the case status. Paying through a visible online option is one path. Contesting through court instructions is another. Applying for the county deferral program is a third. What the newest CCS and a court confirmation say is what was actually recorded.
For mail, use the address and instructions the court or citation supplies. The general Clerk mailing address is PO Box 49, Kentland, IN 47951. Confirm the payee first. Confirm the accepted payment form and deadline too.
