Search the Kentland Court Docket

Need a Kentland court docket? Start with Indiana's statewide case portal, since Kentland has no town court of its own. Pick the Newton County court that holds the case there. Case summaries show filings, settings, orders, and results, and a separate calendar gives a shorter view of upcoming court dates. The Newton County Clerk fills gaps with older or certified records. Kentland town government can help with ordinances and administrative questions, but the judicial docket lives at the county level.

How to Search the Kentland Court Docket

Indiana MyCase is the main public search for any Kentland-related court case. It offers Case, Name, and Attorney modes. A case number works best. Without one, enter a party name and choose Newton Circuit Court or Newton Superior Court. Then narrow by category, status, or filing date. Kentland never appears as a court choice. Indiana lists no Kentland municipal court or Odyssey node.

From the results, open the chronological case summary, called a CCS. Check the case number, court, filing date, type, parties, and status before reading the event list. A similar name is not enough. If the record is missing, old, restricted, or incomplete, call the Newton County Clerk at 219-474-6081. The clerk counter sits at 201 N. Third Street in Kentland. Mail goes to PO Box 49, Kentland, IN 47951.

  1. Choose Case search for a known number.
  2. Use Name search when the number is unknown.
  3. Select a Newton court and the right case category.
  4. Match the case details before opening the CCS.
  5. Check the newest event and setting.
  6. Ask the Clerk for a missing or certified item.

Kentland’s County-Seat Docket Route

Kentland is the Newton County seat. The town and county courts share a place without sharing a record office. The Newton County Courthouse and Government Center sits at 201 N. Third Street. There the Newton County Clerk serves both Circuit Court and Superior Court. That county-seat role explains why Kentland case questions usually lead to a county office, even when the citation or incident is tied to the town.

The route stays compact. MyCase gives the public case summary. Indiana Court Calendar shows a rolling hearing view. The Clerk holds the official files and copies. Circuit Court answers setting questions at 219-474-5131, and Superior Court handles its calendar at 219-474-5569. Kentland Town Hall manages town administration, not a county CCS.

The Kentland Municipal Court

The Indiana court directory lists no separate Kentland municipal or town court. The Odyssey court list shows none either. The town posts no Kentland judge, docket portal, payment system, or court calendar. So the phrase "Kentland court docket" really describes county-level court records tied to Kentland. It is not a distinct town tribunal.

That distinction prevents a common routing mistake. The Kentland departments page lists town offices plus ordinances, minutes, and traffic codes. Those are legislative and administrative materials. A CCS is a judicial event record kept by the Newton County Clerk. A town ordinance can explain a local rule. It cannot show whether a case was filed, reset, decided, or paid. The official page reflects that split.

Kentland court docket and official town departments information

The official town-government channel confirms the pattern. Court record questions still go to Newton Circuit Court, Newton Superior Court, or the Clerk.

Kentland Town Hall or Courthouse

Two Third Street destinations serve different needs. Kentland Town Hall, at 300 N. Third Street, handles town administration, ordinances, minutes, and traffic-code text. Call 219-474-5062. Hours run Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with a noon to 1:00 p.m. closure.

The courthouse sits at 201 N. Third Street, also in Kentland. The similar street names make it worth confirming your destination before you travel. Call whichever office owns the record, especially when a copy or live setting is time-sensitive.

Kentland Court Dates and Settings

Indiana Court Calendar posts a public rolling window of trial-court hearings. The service covers the preceding seven days and the next four weeks. Select Newton County, then Newton Superior Court when applicable. Enter a date, and optionally search by case number or name. Results can show the number, style, and hearing description. Date, time, location, judge, court phone, and refresh information appear too.

A calendar setting is not a result. Old and new settings can both sit in the CCS. Is Circuit Court missing from the selector? Call Circuit Court or the Clerk. Do the same if the date falls outside the public window. Never assume an old notice is still current after a reset.

Find a Kentland Hearing

A practical Kentland hearing check uses two records. Open the MyCase summary first and find the newest setting or order. Then search the public Court Calendar for the Newton court and date. If the records conflict, trust the latest dated order. Call the court. The clerk or judge's office controls the official setting, not a saved screen image.

Common fields include the setting date, start time, courtroom or location, judge, and hearing type. Newton civil dockets use codes such as PT for final pretrial and JT for jury trial. HR stands for hearing. PS stands for proceedings supplemental. These are local labels, and a given Kentland-related docket may use others.

Kentland Traffic Tickets

Traffic tickets written in Kentland do not stay in town. Newton Local Rule 56-15 sends every traffic case to Newton Superior Court. A Kentland traffic-code page can help you read the town ordinance behind the stop. The court docket itself runs through the county. Start with Indiana ePay. Search by UTT or ticket number. That portal also accepts a driver's-license number. You can also pair a first and last name with a date of birth.

Got a hit? Check the court, the amount, and the case details before you pay anything. Remember that ePay is narrower than MyCase. Paying there is not the same as seeing the complete CCS. Nor does it prove every Kentland citation is online. If nothing comes back, retype the exact ticket number, then search MyCase. You can also call Superior Court at 219-474-5569 or the Clerk at 219-474-6081.

Kentland traffic route: Town sources explain ordinances; Superior Court and the Newton County Clerk control the court docket and file.

Kentland Codes Are Not Dockets

Kentland's municipal pages offer ordinances, minutes, and traffic codes. Those documents tell you what the town has enacted or debated. They cannot show the court record side. No party name, case number, charge filing, hearing date, motion, order, disposition, or payment entry lives there.

A judicial docket looks different. Every Newton case number starts with a county court prefix. 56C01 marks Circuit Court, and 56D01 marks Superior Court. The digits that follow encode the filing period, the case type, and the sequence. That prefix matters more than the word Kentland. The docket system has no town-court selector.

A code question sometimes turns into a case question. Hold onto the ordinance citation plus any ticket or notice number. Then take it to MyCase, ePay, Court Calendar, or the county clerk. That habit keeps the law's text separate from the court's record of a filed matter.

Where Kentland Cases End Up

Every Kentland-linked case lands in one of Newton County's two state trial courts. Local allocation rules make the split. Circuit Court handles juvenile work, protective orders, small claims, collections, domestic relations, adoptions, reciprocal support, evictions, and other listed matters. Superior Court takes most adult criminal cases. It also takes all traffic cases. Some ordinance or miscellaneous matters could sit in either court. Search both codes when you are unsure where the file lives.

Docket flow: Kentland event or filing › Newton Circuit or Superior Court › Newton County Clerk CCS › Court of Appeals of Indiana when appealed

The town keeps no parallel municipal docket. One unified clerk holds the records for both county courts. A trial CCS might note a notice of appeal or a transcript request. The appellate docket sits apart. For the county-wide search fields and filters, the contextual Newton County case search walks through the MyCase modes in more depth.

Kentland Court Record Fields

A public Kentland-related CCS can hold a case number, court, filing date, type, caption, status, parties, counsel, dated events, settings, financial entries, disposition, and cross-references. Criminal files may add charge statutes and classifications. Civil files may list complaints, answers, motions, service, judgment, appeal, and post-judgment activity. Beside selected events, links to public documents may appear.

QuestionBest field or channel
Which court has it?56C01 or 56D01 prefix in MyCase
What happened most recently?Newest dated CCS event and order
When is court?Newest setting plus Court Calendar confirmation
Where is the filed document?Public event link, then Clerk
Is the copy official?Certification obtained from the Clerk

MyCase posts a warning worth heeding. Its online information is not the official court record, and financial data can be incomplete or stale. Use the docket to find the matter, then confirm any critical date, balance, result, or certified paper with the court that issued it.

Public Access to Kentland Court Records

Indiana Access Rule 4 sets the baseline: court records are open to the public. Rule 5 then draws the exclusions. It shields sealed cases. It also shields listed juvenile and child information, personal identifiers, specified medical and mental-health material, victim or witness details, and other excluded data. A blank field may simply reflect those rules. So may a missing name or an absent document.

Need a public item that is not online? Ask the Newton County Clerk for the exact CCS entry, filing, order, or judgment. Give the court code and the case number. Add the document title or date, the copy type you want, and return details. Phone, counter, and mail all work. A particularized records request is another option, though Indiana's public-records law does not override judicial confidentiality.

Restricted record: Access Rule 9 provides a verified written request and possible hearing process. It is not an ordinary portal search.

When Kentland Sends You Elsewhere

Where you call depends on the question. Kentland Town Hall handles ordinance language, town minutes, and administrative departments. Superior Court takes calls about traffic and most adult criminal settings. Circuit Court answers for a case assigned there. The Newton County Clerk is the right call for the CCS, a public filing, a plain copy, or a certified copy. The clerk can also help you figure out which court holds the file.

For an in-person record request, go to the courthouse, not Town Hall. Bring the case number and court code. Add the party role, event title, and date range. Ask whether the item is open for inspection. Ask too whether it comes as a plain copy, certified copy, or transcript. A court reporter, not just the clerk, produces transcripts.

Kentland's town identity helps you locate the case. But the Newton court code identifies the judicial record and its official custodian.
